The Villum Foundation Supports After-School Science Activities with 25 Million Kroner

More children and young people should have access to fun, educational after-school activities that bring science and technology into their everyday lives. That is why the Villum Foundation is now, for the fourth time, opening a pool of 25 million kroner, giving associations, youth centres, museums, science centers, nature schools, and others the opportunity to apply for support for projects that motivate children and young people to discover science in their free time.

The goal of the pool is to engage children and young people aged 7 to 20 in programs where they meet regularly and get closer to science in an inspiring way.

“If children and young people are to develop curiosity and motivation for science, they need to experience that science can be fun and exciting – even outside of school. We want to support children and young people as they discover, together, how science and technology are relevant to their lives,” says Agi Csonka, Program Director at the Villum Foundation.

Science in Communities

The pool supports projects that, through fun and engaging activities, help children understand science and technology in everyday life. This can include everything from building robots and discovering the mysteries of the universe to sustainability projects where technology is used to create innovative solutions.

“Science is all around us. With this pool, we hope that more children will open their eyes to the magic of science and technology. Science should be something you actively participate in – together with others,” says Agi Csonka, Program Director at the Villum Foundation.

The pool is open for applications from organizations and institutions already working with children and young people. There is an emphasis on projects that have a broad reach and are aimed at participants who may not already have much exposure to science.

The application deadline is January 10, 2025, at 2:00 PM, and the first grants are expected in June 2025.
