Villum Foundation Grants Funds to SOS Children's Villages and the Children's Living Places Project for the Benefit of Children in Ukraine
The plan is to build new family-like environments in three different locations in the country with the aim of making the care for the children less institutionalized. The project will improve the conditions for Ukrainian children placed in care by constructing both housing and social and recreational facilities for children and foster families in smaller clusters, with a focus on health and sustainability.
Even before the war, Ukraine had one of the highest proportions of children placed in care in Europe, with over 100,000 children placed in various residential institutions.
The project has a wide range of contributors, and the ambition is for the project to also become a flagship for social sustainability and healthy housing. The buildings will be constructed according to the Living Places concept, which was developed by the VELUX Group, EFFEKT Architects, and Artelia Engineers. The concept consists of a model for building energy-efficient homes with a low CO2 footprint and a healthy indoor climate.
