Hyper-Personalized Learning Paths Through the Internet: A Sustainable Approach To Accelerating Language Education

In our ever-increasingly connected world, language learning is essential for effective communication of individuals and socio-economic integration within and between states. The need for integrating large numbers of immigrants is only conferring a new urgency to the problem. However, learning a new language requires significant effort and for most learners, achieving fluency can take many years, a time in which the learner studies with the help of generic materials from apps or textbooks that are hardly motivating and as a result delay the process. In this project we propose that time to mastery in a foreign language can be shortened and learners made more engaged with the help of a system that indexes the foreign language Internet in such a way as to constantly present the learner with personally interesting and challenging content, and in this way, forges a hyper-personalized path to fluency for every individual learner. Since the learning content does not need to be created but rather it is discovered, this novel method can deliver personalized learning in a sustainable manner to all the 1 billion language learners worldwide.
