The annual award medal
The task of designing and crafting the medal was entrusted to the Court Jeweler A. Dragsted, who sent a medalist to inspect and photograph the bronze plaque with Villum Kann Rasmussen's profile that hangs on the wall in the foundations' headquarters at Tobaksvejen 10 in Søborg. The bronze plaque with Villum Kann Rasmussen's profile was created by the Danish sculptor and restorer Eric Erlandsen (1934-2003), who, as a restorer, had numerous assignments for the public, including at Amalienborg, Christiansborg Palace (Marmorbroen), Eremitageslottet, and Nordmandsdalen at Fredensborg Palace.
The bronze plaque was struck with a steel die to produce the medal in the traditional manner. As it is a 4.3 mm thick medal, it must be struck and annealed several times before the relief stands as it should.
The medal is 70 mm in diameter and weighs 129.8 g. It is made of bronzed brass and placed in a handcrafted case made of medium-blue woven fabric with the name and logo of VILLUM FONDEN in gold print on the lid.
The front of the medal features Villum Kann Rasmussen's profile. On the back is the logo of Villum fonden, with "VILLUM FONDEN" at the bottom of the edge, and the inscription "Villum Kann Rasmussens Årslegat til Teknisk og Naturvidenskabelig Forskning" around the edge. In the center, there is space for engraving the name of the Annual Prize recipient and the year.
