GeneBuild: Modelling the genes of buildings to support their scientific analysis.
Project description
Designing and analysing as if they are unique impedes the scientific analysis of both new and existing buildings.
This Villum Experiment asks: If a biologist viewed buildings as organisms, could their inferences support a more interdisciplinary and scientific analysis of buildings?
Result: By comparison of the features, functions and systems in a homogenous population of buildings for a specific building type (university campus) is derived using a novel method to infer the building’s pseudo biological genetics, development and evolution.
Impact: This novel method will enable the design and analysis of multiple buildings at the same time, catalysing an exponential jump in building science. This new high throughput analysis approach will make it possible to run complex and interdependent sustainability assessments and easily change the building at all stages of the design process.
