COEVOLVE: Developing new methods to bridge prehistoric archaeology and ancient DNA
Project description
Ancient DNA analysis has engendered radically new understandings of prehistory. These new insights are entirely conditioned on the data scientific sophistication brought to the topic. COEVOLVE joins the necessary data and domain expertise to conduct a rigorous resampling protocol that targets ancient genomes directly associated with archaeological data, handles these archaeological data with analytical sophistication well beyond the state-of-the-art, and aligns these with palaeogenomic, palaeodemographic, and palaeoclimatic data. With an empirical focus on the hunter-gatherer societies of the late Ice Age, COEVOLVE will contribute substantively to our understanding of prehistoric migration, demography, and culture change – and to interdisciplinary consilience.
