Upgrading the entrance and foyer at Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art

Project description:

Den Frie, located on Oslo Plads next to Østerport Station, is home to an association of more than 50 artists. With support from Villum Foundation, the exhibition building, designed by J. F. Willumsen, has been renovated and renewed with respect for its distinctive architectural character. The project has included the transformation of the entrance area into a bright and welcoming space for visitors, while the forecourt has been expanded to support the museum’s activities.

In 2025, Villum Foundation also supported the acquisition of Vollmond, a sculpture by the German contemporary artist Isa Genzken, which is now installed in front of the exhibition building.
