The ideal applicants are accomplished mid-career research leaders with the potential to consolidate their research and leadership position at a highly recognized international level.
The Villum Ascending Investigator programme is open for submission every second year. The next call will open in 2027.
Eligible applicants are researchers in a permanent position at the Associate Professor or Professor levels who are poised to assume an independent leading position within their field at a Danish University. Applicants must have a PhD age of at least 9 years. Professors must not have held their title for more than 5 years at the time of the application.
Applicants may apply a maximum of two times.
For further details see Application guidelines in the call text.
You may apply for up to DKK 18 million, including project supplement.
The grant period is 5 years.
It takes approximately 8 months from application to final approval or rejection of the application.
The assessment of applications for the Villum Ascending Investigator programme is carried out in two steps.
Step 1: The foundation’s Working Group for Technical and Natural Science evaluates the applications based on the Terms of Reference and decides which applications will proceed to the second stage.
Step 2: In the second stage, the selected applications are sent for international peer review and the applicants are invited to an interview with the working group. Applicants will have the opportunity to reply to the peer reviews prior to the interview. Based on the peer reviews and the interview, the working group recommends a number of applications for funding to the board. The board of Villum Foundation makes their final decision in March.
