Christian Søndergaard Jensen joins the board of VILLUM FONDEN

Professor Christian Søndergaard Jensen, of the Department of Computer Science at Aalborg University, has been elected new member of the board of VILLUM FONDEN.

Christian S. Jensen is a professor at the Department of Computer Science at Aalborg University, where he conducts research in how to manage and create an overview of huge amounts of data from e.g. GPS systems, smartphones and computers - 'temporal, spatial and spatio-temporal data management'.

Christian S. Jensen on his new role on the board of VILLUM FONDEN:

I hope to help maintain and develop this focus."

Christian S. Jensen received a Ph.D. degree in computer science from Aalborg University in 1991 after studying at University of Maryland and he received a Dr.Techn. degree from Aalborg University in 2000.

In 1998 he became a research professor and in 2000 he received his Ph.D. from Aalborg University. In 2010 he was employed as a professor of Computer Science at Aarhus University and in 2013 he returned to Aalborg University. For long periods he has conducted research at the University of Arizona and at Google Inc., Mountain View and he worked for 6 years in the United States.

Christian Søndergaard Jensen is a Fellow at ACM (the Association of Computing Machinery) and Fellow at IEEE (the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers).

Christian S. Jensen is also a member of the Academia Europaea, a member of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and letters Society and a member of the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences. He is president of the Steering Committee for the Swiss National Research Program for Big Data. He is editor-in-chief of ACM Transactions on Database Systems and was editor-in-chief of The VLDB Journal from 2008 to 2014.

Christian S. Jensen replaces board member Professor Peter Landrock on March 13, 2018. Peter Landrock resigns after ten years on the board in accordance with VILLUM FONDEN's Trust Deed.

"The board greatly appreciates Peter Landrock's many years of commitment. Peter has made a considerable and valuable contribution to the development of both the company group and the foundation," says Jens Kann-Rasmussen.

Peter Landrock was formerly a member of the Board of Directors of VELUX A/S and subsequently a member of the board of directors of VKR Holding A/S before being elected member of the Board of VILLUM FONDEN.
