From application to grant

VELUX FOUNDATION receives over 1,000 applications each year. Applicants include universities, associations, NGOs and public institutions from across the country. Out of the numerous applications, VELUX FOUNDATION supports around 600 projects, awarding approximately DKK 300 million annually.

VELUX FOUNDATION has four areas grant areas that also collaborate across and prioritise interdisciplinary projects:

  • Social initiatives
  • A sea in balance
  • Humanities and social science research and culture
  • Transitions and changes of adult life

Each area has several programmes that can be applied for. The grant options are announced through calls on our website. Many of the programmes encourage collaboration, not only across research and practice but also across the four areas of allocation. It is essential to familiarise yourself with the application process under each programme, as the process varies from programme to programme.

The foundation’s work and evaluation processes are designed to ensure a thorough assessment of all applications and inquiries. The senior advisers maintain ongoing contact with various applicant environments such as universities, NGOs, associations, municipalities, regions, cultural institutions and social organisations. To assist the boards in their work, the foundation obtains external assessments. All major applications are presented to the board. In total, the application process typically takes 4-9 months, depending on the grant area you are applying for. All applicants receive a reply.

Exception: Applications under DKK 250,000 received in the ’Transitions and changes in adult life’ area undergo a special process.
